One-Fifth of People Still Use Windows 7. It’s Dangerous, Experts Warn

Date:

Security experts analyzed anonymous metadata about the operating systems of users of the Kaspersky Security Network security solution. And the results are staggering, with sevens still running on 22% of computers.

“Fortunately, 72% of users have already switched to Windows 10, the latest version of the Windows operating system, which also appears to be the safest option,” said Oleg Gorobets, security expert at Kaspersky.

Unsupported system

The latest update for Windows 7 was released last January. Since then, people can no longer download new fixes or improvements to the system. Therefore, if a security breach is discovered in the Seven, users are at risk of being abused by hackers. Even the best antivirus program is not over-defense – it can stop viruses, but it is not a leaky system.

Security experts constantly point out that the use of unsupported operating systems represents a significant security risk. This not only applies to sevens, but also to earlier versions of Windows XP. However, many users ignore their recommendations, as you can see in the previous lines.

“Updating the operating system may seem like an unnecessary hassle to many. However, it is not only used to fix bugs or enable the latest interface, the update will also fix bugs that can open the way for cybercriminals to your computer,” he said. Gorobets.

“Even if you think you are vigilant and use security software, updating your operating system is an essential security feature that you should not underestimate, even if you are using a third-party security solution. If your operating system is out of date, you cannot receive updates. If your house is old and falling apart, there is no point in installing a new door. It makes more sense to find a new home sooner rather than later. You should do the same when it comes to ensuring the security of your operating system when that trusts its valuable data on a daily basis, “added the security expert.
