Google is expanding its codeless AppSheet platform, which is designed for business users. To develop simple web and mobile applications, users can use AI-enabled functions that are supposed to recognize and extract structured data in unstructured documents. Technically, it is based on Google’s Document AI platform. Provides an API with which users can access learned machine learning models, tools and analyzers for the analysis and evaluation of invoices or tax documents.
For AppSheet, Google has developed the technology to such an extent that users without specific development skills (Google calls them “Citizen Developer”) can automate the corresponding business processes using a no-code approach. For this purpose, the software offers a visual editor with ready-made components for views and program sequences, from which mobile and web applications can be created step-by-step using drag and drop.
Google Sheets and Google Drive evaluation
AppSheet Automation has been available to users in an early access release since September 2020 and enables access to a wide range of external data sources, including Salesforce, MySQL, Dropbox, AWS DynamoDB, and G Suite (now Google Workplace). The now officially released GA version of the software (general availability) supplements the data sources with Google Sheets and Google Drive. In the long term, integration in Gmail is also planned.

Develop and automate without programming
Google has taken over AppSheet 2020 as a product of the provider of the same name for an unspecified amount and has integrated it into its portfolio of cloud services. Soon after, the previously offered low-code platform, App Maker, came to an end. AppSheet aims to build cross-platform applications and should score points with Document-AI compliant document processing and various interfaces to external data sources that users can use without programming skills.
