Microsoft turns off Cortana on iOS and Android, will survive only on Windows with a focus on business – Nerd4.life

Date:

On this day Microsoft has decided to permanently close Cortana its iOS and Android. The artificial intelligence-inspired digital assistant that has accompanied Master Chief on countless adventures, has not faced competition from Alexa and the Google assistant. In the intentions of the Redmond giant, Cortana will survive only on Windows 10, but will have a focus on business and productivity.

In Microsoft’s initial plans, however, Cortana was supposed to be one and all competitor Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. Microsoft had thought about putting Cortana inside headphones, Surface PCs, and even refrigerators and thermostats, but only some of these things have seen the light of day and even these have been decommissioned in recent months.

Its diffusion, in fact, has been extremely limited, despite being incorporated in every copy of Windows 10. In fact, already a couple of years ago, the CEO of Microsoft Satya nadella It had admitted that it could no longer compete with competitors from Amazon and Google and had decided to rethink the future of Cortana.

Therefore, on March 31, 2021, Microsoft decided to permanently close the application for iOS and Android, after approximately 5 years of activity. For Cortana, however, it won’t be the end. This artificial intelligence will survive on Windows 10 PCs, becoming a ‘digital assistant, which is a tool that should help and simplify productivity in daily work life.
