Last year, AMD released expanded support for variable-size BAR (Base Address Register) technology, featuring as intelligent access memory. The technology simplifies the use of the entire memory capacity on the graphics card, reduces the number of data transfers and thanks to this, you can get an extra 5% to 10% performance in games.
While until now this technology could only be used in combination with an AMD processor and AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics, now with support is coming and Nvidia, although limited so far. The resizable bar can be used in combination with AMD processors with Zen 3 architecture (AMD 400 and 500 chipsets) or 10th and 11th generation Intel Core processors. A specific list of models and chipsets can be seen in the Nvidia chart.
Technology with current Nvidia drivers works so far only with the just mentioned GeForce RTX 3060which also has a respectable 12GB GDDR6 memory GeForce RTX 3000 Series Mobile Graphics in Notebooks.
Support for all other GeForce RTX 3000 series cards will be enabled through updated drivers during march. Users must also properly enable the technology in the motherboard BIOS. Asus, ASRock, Colorful, Evga, Gigabyte and MSI already have BIOS supported.
The functionality of the resizable bar can be verified in the Nvidia control panel in the “System Information” section.
