Jack Black starred in “Borderlands,” a movie adaptation of the popular video game Lionsgate. He participates in A List ensembles including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Black represents the role of Claptrap, a relentlessly ironic robot that has not only invested in the survival of his teammates. Eli Roth, who previously collaborated with Black and Blanchett in the 2018 family comedy “House with a Clock on the Wall,” oversees “Borderlands.”
“I’m very excited to see Jack again at the recording booth this time,” Ross said. “Claptrap is the weirdest character in the game, and Jack is a great way to take him to the big screen.”
Nathan Kahane, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said choosing Black for this role was “one of the easiest casting decisions I’ve ever made.”
“When we approached this role, we wouldn’t have been able to sync anymore with filmmakers and casting executives,” Kahane said. “Anyone who has ever played a game knows that Jack is perfect for this part. “Borderlands” is based on a role-playing shooter launched in 2009. The game, which has produced several sequels and stands as one of the most successful franchises, takes place on Pandora’s Planet. Craig Mazin, who created the acclaimed HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” wrote the latest draft of the script.
As previously announced, Blanchett plays the main character Lilith, and Hart plays a skilled soldier named Roland. Curtis was cast as Tannis, an archaeologist working on Pandora.
Avi Arad and Ari Arad are produced through the Arad Productions banner, and Erik Feig is also produced through Picturestar. Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the “Borderlands” video game franchise and founder of Gearbox Entertainment Company, is also executive producer of the film, along with Take-Two Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick.
James Myers and Aaron Edmonds oversee the project on behalf of Lionsgate. Emmy You directs a movie for Arad Productions. Lucy Kitada and Royce Reeves-Darby oversee the Picturestar project. Robert Melnick negotiated a deal on behalf of Lionsgate.
Black recently starred with Hart in “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which has generated over $ 800 million in revenue worldwide. He then reunites with Richard Linklater, director of “School of Rock,” in the animated Netflix movie “Apollo 10½: A Space Age Adventure.”
