As you might be surprised to hear from someone who writes a weekly column about video games, I play a lot of video games.
Sony and Nintendo (and probably Microsoft, I don’t have an Xbox) send players a summary of the game over the past year each year, and writing about it is usually one of my favorite columns each year. ..
I played 1,416 hours of video games in 2020 between PlayStation 4 (I didn’t get a PS5 until a few weeks ago) and Nintendo Switch. This is about 350 hours more than in 2019. Most of it was 1,144 hours on PS4. For 272 hours on the switch.
The game I played the most in 2020 for the third consecutive year was Star Wars Battlefront 2, which I played for 389 hours. Since its launch in November 2017, it has been playing for 1,358 hours.
The second PlayStation 4 game played in 2020 will stay in the galaxy far away. “Star Wars Squadrons” was released in early October last year, so I played for 73 hours in 2020, most of which was VR. The third game I played on PlayStation 4 for the second year in a row was “Minecraft”.
The second game played on PlayStation hardware in 2019 was Friday the 13th: Game, which won the most played spot on Nintendo Switch for the second year in a row. Of the 272 hours of playing Nintendo Switch in 2020, “Friday the 13th” was 250 hours.
The top three games played on Switch in 2020 ended with a little over 10 hours of “Star Wars Jedi Nights: Jedi Outcast” remastering and a slightly shorter time of “Luigi Mansion 3”.
It didn’t take up most of the game time, but last year was the year we rediscovered our love for VR. In 2019, I used a PSVR headset for just 6 hours. Last year, we didn’t have to play VR, but it increased to 91 hours thanks to the Star Wars Squadron, which is definitely enhanced by VR. “Ast Robot: Rescue Mission”, my favorite VR game. And “Vader Immortal” is another great Star Wars experience that requires VR.
It will be interesting to see how my results for 2021 are shaped. I’m still not sure what kind of games will come out this year. And after picking up PlayStation 5, I’m playing “Star Wars Battlefront 2” more and more. I’m still hoping it will come to my top 3 most played games at the end of the year, but 2021 may be the year it hits that perch at the top.
