Earlier this week, Nintendo fans were treated to the release of another DLC character for Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sephiroth from FINAL FANTASY VII joined the fight, and some of Smash’s current roster was there to see his arrival. Banjo and Kazuye were as shocked as the fans when they saw the one-winged angel coming down from the front.
It’s pretty wild to see the faces of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If fans are enjoying rebirth and are overwhelmed by the characters, then their creators are sure to be! Steve Mayles, creator of Banjo-Kazooie, shared his thoughts on seeing bears and birds on Sephiroth’s public trailer on Twitter.
That was great and I was a little sad about what I guessed. But there is still hope!
The reference to Mails’ “sadness” is undoubtedly related to the disappearance of banjos and Kazuye from the game world. It’s been a long time since I saw a dynamic duo clinching the headlines of a new game, but no one knows if it will never happen again. The trajectory of RARE has certainly changed significantly since the Nintendo era, with most employees moving to Playtonic and other companies.
Will there be another Banjo-Kazooie game? We hope that the reaction to the characters in Smash will show Microsoft that there are millions of people who want another adventure together. We just have to keep crossing our fingers and expect the best.
